Things to consider when buying a home.

  • Determine how much you can spend on a home.
  • Determine with a reputable lender the loan amount you qualify for.
  • Determine a neighborhood or area where you would like to live.  Do this by driving through difference neighborhoods, talking with friends or relatives, talking with your realtor about taxes, various school districts and neighborhood zoning.
  • Determine what services are important to you --Do you want to be close to highway access, shopping, schools, etc.
  • When looking at homes, consider the basics:
Exterior
  • Do trees/shrubs look healthy & well maintained?
  • Is outside lighting adequate?
  • Are sidewalks & driveways in good condition-will water drain well?
  • Is the home in good over all condition visually-look at roof, walls, windows, siding, gutters, shutters, etc.
  • As your real estate agent for his/her input.
Interior
  • Is the house set up in a comfortable floor plan?

  • Do doors and windows work easily?

  • Visually, is the home in good condition-look for cracks, holes, and signs of water leakage?

  • Do appliances, furnace &air conditioning appear to be in good condition?
